Since 2009, AUDIO2 has been producing live audio descriptions for German television and a wide range of events. Their work spans every kind of broadcast production — from sports events to television entertainment shows and commemorative ceremonies.
In 2019, the company began evaluating audio encoding solutions to enable remote audio description workflows. After extensive testing, AUDIO2 selected the Prodys Quantum W and Quantum ST encoders for their combination of audio quality, reliability, and flexibility.
The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 gave the project an unexpected boost, accelerating the transition to remote production. The first remote broadcasts were successfully delivered in April 2020, marking the start of a new era in AUDIO2’s operations.
Since then, Prodys Quantum encoders have been used in over 1,000 productions, covering all types of content and deployment configurations — and remarkably, without a single broadcast failure.
Michael Kastelic, Senior Engineer at AUDIO2, explains:
“The Prodys encoders work reliably, even though we repeatedly face challenges with various SIM cards from different network operators. Our colleagues now keep the devices at home and comment on live broadcasts from their living rooms, hotels, or wherever necessary. This allows us to remain flexible in our resource planning and saves hundreds of production trips.”
Thanks to the Prodys Quantum series, AUDIO2 has built a robust and versatile remote commentary workflow, delivering consistent quality and reliability to broadcasters and audiences alike.
